Wharfe Bluegrass Festival May 17th to 19th

The organisers of the Wharfe bluegrass festival have been in touch with the following message. The festival will be held over the weekend of May 17th to 19th.

Good news at last. We have found a great venue at the Red Lion, Stiffords Bridge near Malvern. WR13 5NN

There is much more room inside and covered outside than we have had recently.

  • Strictly acoustic only.
  • Camping is free but you are expected to spend money in the pub in exchange.
  • There are no outside toilets so we will have to pay for a portaloo or two. Payment will be needed from everybody, even if you have your own facilities, as they will be necessary to hold the event.

Sore Fingers Dates

Sore Fingers have announced their dates for October 2024 and Easter 2025. Both events are at Kingham Hill School, Kingham, Chipping Norton Oxfordshire. OX7 6TH, and the dates are as follows

Sore Fingers October Weekend 2024 : Friday 25 to Sunday 27th, October, 2024

This is the event to chose if you’ve never been before and a whole week seems daunting. In tow days, you will get the feel for what it’s all about, learning from the best UK, European and occasional US tutor, make life long friends, and play music until you drop. And of course, amazing and unique concerts you will only ever witness of you attend.

Sore Fingers Week 2025: Sunday 13th April to Saturday 19th April, 2025 (includes arrivals and departure days, classes run from Monday to Friday)

Considered to be one of the best Bluegrass and Old Time camps in the world and certainly outside North America. Five days of the highest quality tuition, performance, and social interaction found no where else. Over thirty years, SFSS has brought the very best tutors from the US Bluegrass and Old Time scenes. We’ve watched people and kids develop into more rounded musicians, young people grow up and acquire real life skills, people make life long associations…. It’s impossible to describe the impact of this event in a few lines. There’s just one thing to say: if you enjoy the company of like minded people, like high quality concerts and enjoy having lots of fun, the add it to your bucket list, you have to try een just once, it will likely change your life!

The Junction Bresfest Picking Weekend

A North West Bluegrass Picking Weekend, in St Helens, at the Junction pub.

The Junction has excellent facilities to provide one of the UK’s premier picking weekends. An extensive pub area with a large function room, a huge flat camping area for motor homes, caravans and tents. A 250 seater Marquee with wooden floor, a bar, kitchen, stage and toilet facilities. Workshops, open mic, Early Saturday night concert, multiple Jams, and a Sunday Gospel session.

The picking weekend provides plenty of areas for Jams for all levels including pre organised sessions. Come along and enjoy your picking and socialising in a great Lancashire setting.
Bluegrass music is addictive so we urge you to pick responsibly. A Northern dialect translation service will be provided on request if required. I’d like to say there won’t be any whippets or flat caps but there’s always one.
Well behaved Black Puddings, Bacon Barms and all forms of Butties are allowed.
